Imagine - ma ʻalahi nō ʻeā (it's easy to do)

Posted on Oct 7th, 2008 by Alika : Harbinger of ALOHA! Alika
In 1971, John Lennon released the song "Imagine" on his album of the same name.  No matter where in the world we live, we all know this song.  "Imagine" ends with the lyrics "and the world will live as one" which might not be our reality yet but every day I am inspired that we are moving toward that as I see people living their lives toward this goal every day.

I was incredibly honored recently when I was asked to add my voice to a Hawaiian chanting CD being recorded by Hawaiian recording artist Ried Kapo Ku.  It was my first time in a recording studio so I stayed after my part to witness how it all worked.  The final chant on his CD is a Hawaiian translation of John Lennon's "imagine" and when I listened to this message in the language of my ancestors - I had chills.

The message in this song is one that I try and live every day through living Aloha.  A message of peace, a message of unity, a message of brotherhood - I think now more than ever our world needs this reminder that we are all one world.  Hearing this message in Hawaiian made me realize how powerful the message is.  I did some research and found lthat "Imagine" has been translated and recorded in nearly every language.  Former U.S. President Carter has said that he hears "Imagine" in every country he and his wife have visited.

Perhaps it is an anthem for our world.

Now you all may say I'm a dreamer but I know here on Gaia, I am not the only one.  I hope we can all live as one through the peace, unity and brotherhood that John Lennon's word's inspire us to.

Mahalo!

Hawaiian Imagine Chant
(Original lyrics by John Lennon, translated by Ried Kapo Ku)
E māhu ʻihuʻi lā
Maʻalahi nō ʻeā
Nā hana o ka lani lāLike kō ka pō
Na ka lehulehu
Noho i
ʻānō

E māhu ʻihuʻi lā
He aloha
hoahānau
Kānewai manaʻo
To ʻole pū
Na ka lehulehu
I ka
laʻikū

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one
